Pearl and the Beard

The earthy Brooklyn-based folk duo" (The New Yorker) Pearl and the Beard formed in September of 2007 in that little town of Brooklyn which sits quaintly upon the shores of New York. It was kismet that brought its first two members Jocelyn Mackenzie and Jeremy Styles together in a local watering hole, where they vented frustrations with the solo artist scene over some loudmouth soup. After finding theywere both insane enough to put all of their eggs into one proverbial basket, they decided to musically elope, abandoning any hopes of living normal, quiet lives waiting for arthritis to course through their once musically-infused bones and dust to collect on their vocal chords.
And so, with food in their pockets and money in their bellies, they sat down to write. Jeremy's robust guitar chords were peanut butter to Jocelyn's melodic and lyrical jelly. Their voices climbed and plummeted gracefully side by side and ploughed through the crystal air like cannon balls. Jeff Buckley and Johnny Cash were brought back from the dead and Neko Case served them red wine.
Since then, they have self-produced their first EP "At Home with Pearl and the Beard," relentlessly booked shows in New York and Great Cities beyond, have added the lovely and talented cellist Emily Hope Price to their marraige (which has matured and honeyed their sound tremendously), and are currently working on recording their first full-length album. Pearl and the Beard's greatest joy is derived from sharing their unencumbered aural offspring with as many souls as will listen. And so now we pray that you may lend your ears to our songs, and that they bring to you as much delight and satisfaction as creating them has brought to us.
